We offer the synergy of comfort, sophistication, luxury, simplicity and relaxation as well as exciting and rewarding fishing. All this and more just 2½ hours from Johannesburg or Pretoria. The pools below the 100m waterfall are great for picnicking and swimming. The cliffs are also home to breeding colonies of endangered Bald Ibis and we are pet friendly.

Restaurant, Bar & Shop

Our cosy and intimate restaurant offers a real treat – be it breakfast, lunch or dinner – the ideal atmosphere to share memories. The Kingfisher onsite bar is fully licensed to sell Alcohol and we also have a convenient shop for all your needs. The shop is also stocked with a variety of flies to purchase. We can supply picnic baskets on request should you like to have a no fuss picnic with a view.

 Verified Blissful and rejuvenating
The peacefulness of the water and calmness of walking on the trails revitalizes your mind ensuring you forget about the hustle and bustle of the city. After a weekend you feel like a new person. You are so close to the real world but feel so far away that nothing bothers you. The staff are great and friendly, and the accommodation is great value.

I was so impressed with how beautiful the lodge is & the staff was amazing . The staff & owner was so friendly , even though it was our first time visiting Kingfisher lodge, they made it feel like we've been going there for years and that were very much apart of the Kingfisher family .  Verified Gorgeous spit in every way
We had FOUR boxes to tick when choosing a spot for a few days away. Not too far from PTA. Fishing. Hiking. a place that allowed dogs. Kingfisher ticked all these boxes and more. The grounds a beautifully kept. The units are very basic in terms of interiors but perfect considering the type of spot it is and fact dogs and kids are allowed. There was a well stocked little shop. A restaurant and bar on site. The hike to the waterfall was lovely and we loved the gorgeous waterfall. The staff were amazing and we felt like they were friends by the time we left.

Highly recommended. It is truly a spectacular place. Manicured lawns, Cottages with an amazing view, Waterfall within walking distance and plenty of trout dams. Pet friendly. Our dogs had so much fun. We will definitely book another stay at Kingfisher Country Cottages & Trout Lodge

We had the most wonderful stay this weekend. The location is amazing with so much to do. Everything is very well maintained and clean. Staff incredibly friendly and helpful. The walk to the bottom of the waterfall was our favorite. We will definitely be back soon.

 Verified Hospitality with a difference!
Peace and tranquillity! We had such a lovely stay at The Kingfisher Country Cottage & Trout Lodge, on arrival we were greeted by Gary & Cat on arrival. We received a complimentary glass of sherry and given a tour of the grounds. We only stayed for a, but we had an amazing time. We had a delicious breakfast the following morning. Compliments to Cat and staff for providing us with such amazing food. Gary, thanks for the tip on swimming at the waterfall. Many thanks to Gary and Cat for their hospitality and friendly chats. Would definitely recommend The Kingfisher Country Cottage & Trout Lodge to fellow travellers! We will visit soon again.

Die omgewing is asemrowend en die staf is hartsmense wat soos ou vriende voel! My hondjie was in haar element met al die maatjies. Thank you for coming out to assist us at night with a broken down vehicle, you are proof that there are still good people out there👏 The lodge is well maintained, peaceful and absolutely beautiful...so tranquil and with good hospitality.. nothing more is needed 🙂 Thank you Hennie, Gary, and the rest of the team! Dit was n wonderlike ervaring met n veruklikke mooi rustige omgewing. Alles wat mens nodig het is daar en die restaurant is uitstekend. Die personeel is almal baie vriendelik en Hennie en Michelle ( die bestuurders) gaan uit hul pad om dit aangenaam te maak. Andre is n groot aanwins tot die oord. Die sondag namiddag het daar n verwoeste donderstorm uitgebreek met bome wat ontwortel is. Gary, die eienaar, het kom aanbied dat ons liewer in een van die chalets gaan oornag as om in die tent te wees. Hulle het ons gratis die nag daar gehuisves.

Came here 20odd years ago and it has lost none of its charm and beauty even as it has been developed into a more family friendly location. Gary is an amazing host and really makes his guests feel welcome in a truly relaxing atmosphere. The trout fishing dams are spectacular and we had a lot of fun learning how to fly fish. 

Would honestly rate this as one of the best spots we’ve ever holidayed at with the most amazing views. Chalets are clean and neat and are also very spacious for the family units. The restaurant and bar are self service with an honesty system that is very convenient. 

Will for sure be coming back to this little gem tucked away in the Mpumalanga mountains. 

PS: best ever is that we had zero load shedding in 4 days!! What a bonus.
